How Can Recruiters Engage with Millennials

How Can Recruiters Engage with Millennials In 2014, 36% of the workforce was made up of Millennials who were between 18 and 35 years old. This percentage is expected to rise to 75% by 2025. According to a study done by UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and the YEC, most Millennials value jobs with growth opportunities, which include both personal and career growth. To them, it is more important to have jobs that are aligned with their passion than to have to jobs that pay more. Some refer to Millennials as the most entrepreneurial generation ever. So, how can recruiters engage them and exploit their natural talent for technology, creativity, and ambition? 1. Keep the recruiting process personal In order to engage Millennials, the recruiting process must be dynamic and interactive. They prefer meaningful, fluid, and relevant interaction to standard static experience. In addition, they appreciate flexibility and prefer engagement conducted from a computer, tablet, or even a smart phone to traditional face-to-face meetings. Some Millennials also express frustration with recruiters who don’t do their homework on recruits and communicate with non-personalized or canned messages. This often leads to bad fitted jobs and a waste of time for both the recruit and the recruiter. 2. Keep the recruiting process efficient Most hiring processes are time-consuming and require a lot of paperwork. Because of this, some Millennials choose to opt out of the process. In order to engage these Millennials, recruiters have to keep the process efficient, such as screening, interviewing, and scheduling in a single engagement. The process also has to be transparent, which means that the candidates are kept in the loop throughout the recruiting process. 3. Make them feel appreciated During the recruiting process, it is important to give Millennials the feeling that they are asset to the company and their works will be appreciated. They also want honest feedback. They need to be able to ask questions that allow them to understand the company and how they can fit into the company culture. They also want frequent and honest feedback. Recruiters need to keep the candidates “warm” even when there are no job openings at the time. 4. Let them make a difference Millennials like meaningful work. They want to work for organizations that can make a difference in the society. They want to identify with the organization’s brand and a greater cause. They want to know that the company they work for is in sync with their personal values. To recruit and retain these Millennials, you have to give them the flexibility to complete a task the way they want to. After all, as long as they can provide the desired result, does it matter how they do it?

7 Ways to Transform the Working Day of Your Employees

7 Ways to Transform the Working Day of Your Employees Are you worried by your office environment? Maybe youre guilty of the dreaded zombie workforce syndrome?  Theres no denying that there is a direct link between employee satisfaction in the workplace and productivity levels. By making some small changes to your office environment your employees will be more content and as a result you can expect less clock watching and negativity! When you create an enjoyable  work  environment you can expect an engaged, productive bunch of employees and heres how: 1. Supply  breakfast One of the best changes you can make to a persons  daily routine is the introduction of a breakfast option in the workplace. Eating the right breakfast will ensure that people  have a steady  release of energy throughout the day. To support a breakfast culture you can create an allocated breakfast club time (starting before the official day start). This will make sure people are in and ready for their working day but it will also encourage people to sit down, have a proper breakfast together and socialise. Starting the day positively will have a great impact on peoples  attitude to the day! 2. Encourage exercise Exercise has been  scientifically proven to improve a persons state of mind which in turn will have a positive effect on their  concentration levels. The majority of  companies now operate with flexible working hours, so why not look at allowing employees flexible lunch hours (add an extra half an hour to their lunchtime allowance if they stay half an hour later). This means they will have enough time to go to the gym and have a quick desk lunch by going in an office group together you will also have some out of work team bonding which will help to strengthen office relationships. If these working arrangement arent feasible for your business perhaps you could look at supporting  a cycle to work scheme or putting table tennis in the office. Employees are  less likely to have a mid afternoon slump if they partake in some form of exercise! 3. Meditation Stress is a main culprit contributing to someone having a bad day. Some of the negative effects of stress include: Insomnia, which will contribute to a decrease in creativity and inspiration Relationships damaged by negativity Anxiety Lack of clarity. Meditation  is a great stress-buster which is why more and more companies are investing into mindfulness and meditation sessions as part of a wellness programme. Whether your organisation is made up of 20 or 2,000 staff there are many benefits associated with investing. Not only will you see an increase in employees general wellbeing but you should also expect to see an increase in their output (studies have attributed improved memory to the practise of mindfulness). 4. Provide flexible working arrangements Many companies now offer flexible working arrangements and its easy to see why! Countless  employees arrive at the office stressed after a hellish commute during peak hours which will have an impact on their work by allowing flexibility on start/finish times employees can dramatically cut down commute times and the stress associated with their travel. Equally as important, the flexibility to start earlier/later can dramatically reduce the cost of childcare for parents. Allow flexibility (where possible) and expect to see improved employee morale. 5. Keep your employees  hydrated For minimal associated cost you can purchase a water dispenser which requires  minimal effort to infuse with fresh fruit daily. Theres nothing like lemon infused water to encourage employees to drink more water! The benefit to you? A study conducted by the University of East London suggests that those who are properly hydrated are, on average 14% more productive! 6. Give the office a makeover By adding an office plant, not only are you improving the feng shui plants also absorb carbon dioxide and in turn release oxygen this will result in reduced air pollution and stress levels! A less commonly known fact about office plants is that they also absorb office noise. In a study conducted by Lohr in 2000 participants were found to be 12% more productive and less stressed compared to employees in an office with no plants. 7. Hold brainstorming meetings Ultimately employees will feel more content if they believe their opinion is valued in an organisation. Give them the opportunity to have an input to the way their organisation is run by holding a quick 15-20 minute monthly brainstorm. In the session ask them for their honest feedback what they would like to stop, start and continue doing and follow through with actions (where possible). By allowing employees to set their own incentives you will ensure that you have a more engaged workforce if some people dont feel comfortable openly contributing you can always add an anonymous box where employees jot down things confidentially for you to review. Theres no denying that a happy workplace will positively impact your companys output with  a productive workforce. When you consider the cost of attrition and retention issues for a business, it makes complete sense to invest in these areas. Not only will you find yourself spending less on hiring new staff but you will also become a workplace of choice with a happy workforce culture which, in turn will result in the attraction of higher quality candidates to your business too!

4 Tips For Healthier, Happier Eyes

4 Tips For Healthier, Happier Eyes Just like we make an effort to take care of our skin, we should also do the same when it comes to our eyes. For some reason, many of us make the mistake of thinking that our eyes don’t require daily care to stay healthy and happy, but that’s not the case. The truth is that your eyes need as much care as your skin does, if you want them to be healthy, that is. To help you ensure that your eyes are well taken care of, we have put together four useful eye care tips: Treat your lashes gently It’s probably never crossed your mind, but your lashes are incredibly delicate. Far too many of us scrub away our eye makeup with a second thought for our poor lashes. If you want to prevent your lashes from breaking, and make them as strong as possible, ensure that you are gentle when cleansing your eyes. The best way to cleanse is by gently wiping over each eye with a cotton pad and cleansing solution. If you’ve noticed that your lashes don’t seem to grow, it could be down to how you look after them. The first thing that you can do is try moisturizing them with coconut oil; this helps to encourage growth. If natural remedies don’t work, it could be worth trying a prescription treatment. You can buy Latisse online, and use it to treat your lashes and help boost their growth. Helps soothe puffy eyes Photo source Often, we overlook puffy eyes as simply being caused by tiredness, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes a buildup of fluid under the eye can be to blame, or countless other reasons. That’s why, it’s important to make time to soothe puffy eyes. While there are plenty of soothing creams on the market, the truth is that the best cures are natural. That’s right, cool cucumber or tea bags are the best ways to reduce puffiness from around your eyes, and get rid of dark bags at the same time. Always prime before makeup Sometimes, makeup can dry our eyes out. The skin around our eyes is extra sensitive, so it’s important to protect your eyes with primer before applying makeup. By popping on a little primer Benefit’s Air Patrol Primer is very good, you can protect your eyes, and also, keep your eye makeup in place for longer. If you do find that your eyes are prone to drying out even with primer, it might be a good idea to invest in some shea butter. This natural balm has amazing hydrating properties, and because it’s all natural, can be used anywhere on the body. So is perfect for sensitive areas, like the eyes. Use natural products You may not realize it, but the majority of makeup products contain chemicals. While it might be more expensive and give you limited choice, if you want to keep your eyes healthy, it’s best to use natural products. Before buying a product, always read up about it online. Look at what goes into it, whether it contains parabens, chemicals or SLS, and then decide whether it’s worth using. Want healthier, happier eyes? Then, take note of the four tips above. Job Search What Happened to Process and Organization

Job Search What Happened to Process and Organization Job Search: What Happened to Process and Organization? Like most job seekers, Michael did not have all his notes, documents, and research in one place…anywhere. Not in a binder, in a shoebox, or on a computer. He started to tell me about this company and that one and, “Gee, I thought I was going to get this one.” I asked him to show me what he had been submitting to each job application and he handed me his résumé. How about an example of a cover letter? How about a follow-up letter if you have the email address of a hiring manager? Michael admitted, sheepishly, that he sent applications off and just waited. He has no tracking mechanism but he is busy applying! Stop the insanity! Before you apply to another position, get organized; it’s going to take massive attention to detail, brilliant follow-up, and networking to secure your next career move. Whether you are searching for your next role within your company or you are looking outside, you need to “project manage” your job search effort. Here’s the solution: Get your job search notebook or technology in order. Will you be using a PC? Or are you more comfortable with a binder with pages that you will handwrite? Or a combination: using a PC, then printing out and inserting pages into a binder so you can find them at any time. You decide. Do something. Tips for choosing the best solution for you: DO pick something that you can carry around with you (laptop, USB drive for a borrowed or library PC, binder). That way, you can work on it during any free time you have. DON’T scribble on small pieces of paper, like yellow sticky notes, and throw them in a folder. DO make it simple for you. DON’T start something you won’t use. DO prepare to be disciplined. If you don’t build your organization tools, you are not committed to job searching. There is a direct correlation between the SPEED at which people get employed and the disciplined process they are using. Why? There is no way anybody can remember everything about every position. For example, If you are networking and someone asks you, “Who is the hiring manager at Boeing for that job you want?” What will you say? You won’t remember if you have a healthy pipeline of job opportunities. I remember interviewing Mark for the final round of interviews and asked him who he interviewed with two weeks prior. He couldn’t remember and had no document in front of him with that information. The biggest risk to not being organized around your job search details is that you will fail at follow up. You will miss an opportunity to send a thank you note, to do research about a company, or to follow up with a hiring manager about their job opening! I have created all kinds of tools for you to manage your job search in an organized way. They are free with the purchase of my book, Cut the Crap, Get a Job! A New Job Search Process for a New Era. https://www.danamanciagli.com/book/ Or you can buy them all here https://www.danamanciagli.com/tool-downloads/.
